Democracy and Good Governance

Vision
A Nigeria where citizens—especially youth and women—actively participate in transparent, inclusive, and accountable governance that guarantees justice, equity, and prosperity for all.
Why It Matters
Democracy thrives when citizens understand their rights and responsibilities and can hold leaders accountable.
Yet, in many communities across Nigeria, civic participation remains low due to limited awareness, weak institutions, and poor access to governance information.
Forward Africa (FOFA) believes that good governance is the foundation of sustainable development—without accountability, corruption flourishes, public trust erodes, and inequality widens.

Our Democracy and Good Governance Program empowers ordinary citizens to become agents of change who can influence decision-making, promote transparency, and ensure that government works for the people, not the few.
our approach
Forward Africa uses a participatory, bottom-up strategy to strengthen democratic culture and accountable governance through:

-
Civic Education & Voter Awareness: Building citizens’ understanding of their rights and responsibilities to drive informed political participation.

-
Capacity Building for CSOs & Youth Leaders: Strengthening advocacy, monitoring, and engagement skills for civic actors to interface with government effectively.

-
Transparency & Accountability Advocacy: Promoting anti-corruption measures, ethical leadership, and open governance through public campaigns and town hall dialogues.

-
Policy Engagement: Facilitating research-driven advocacy to shape policies that foster inclusiveness and equitable resource allocation.

FOFA partners with national and international institutions such as USAID, NDI, PACT, and the Partnership Initiative for the Niger Delta (PIND) to institutionalize good governance at all levels.
