agriculture and food security

Vision
A food-secure and prosperous Nigeria where smallholder farmers — especially women and youth — thrive through sustainable, climate-smart, and inclusive agricultural practices
Why It Matters
Agriculture remains the backbone of Nigeria’s economy, employing over 70% of the rural population.
Yet, millions of smallholder farmers continue to face limited access to markets, financing, inputs, and modern technologies.
Women, who make up nearly half of the agricultural workforce, often lack the resources and training to scale their farms profitably.

At Forward Africa Initiative (FOFA), we believe that achieving national food security and economic resilience starts with empowering smallholders.
By strengthening agricultural value chains, promoting climate-smart farming, and connecting farmers to sustainable markets, FOFA drives rural transformation and reduces hunger and poverty — one community at a time.
our approach
Value Chain Development: We work across major agricultural value chains — including cassava, poultry, aquaculture, and maize — improving productivity and profitability through input access, cooperative formation, and processing linkages.
Climate-Smart Agriculture: FOFA trains farmers on eco-friendly and sustainable farming methods that reduce carbon footprints, conserve soil, and protect biodiversity — building resilience against floods and droughts.

Market and Finance Access: We connect farmers to financial institutions, agro-dealers, and buyers to ensure fair pricing and income stability. Through digital platforms and cooperatives, we help them scale from subsistence to commercial farming.

Women and Youth Agripreneurship: We empower women and young people to become agro-entrepreneurs through capacity building, mentorship, and startup support — fostering job creation and inclusive growth.
